Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: McVitie's Christmas Mint Digestive Slices/ Irish Cream Bars/ Heat to Treat Fruity Christmas Cakes Confirmed sighting: McVitie's Christmas Mint Digestive Slices/ Irish Cream Bars/ Heat to Treat Fruity Christmas Cakes
Posted: 22:35 Tue 04-Dec-2007. Price: All 1.29/ pack of 6, 5 or 2, respectively. Location: Sainsbury's, Finchley Road, London. Nutritional unusualness: "No hydrogenated vegetable oil" in the Heat to Treats and Digestive Slices, a claim intriguingly absent from the Irish Cream Bars.
Snackspot reports: McVitie's are flying in the face of traditional seasonal fare with this selection, though they've clearly made an effort with the consistently purple packaging. The Mint Digestive Slices are pleasantly packed with sultanas, but also highlight why Mint Digestives never seem to have really caught on - they're a bit odd with a cup of tea. The subtly-flavoured Irish Cream Bars are even more upmarket, and hopefully pave the way for an official Bailey's Liqueur cake bar, but the Fruity Christmas Cakes with a brandy sauce filling addition to the Heat To Treat range are unlikely to steal the thunder from this year's welcome return of McDonald's 84p mincemeat and custard Festive Pie.

...Elsewhere, in even less conventional Christmas-cakery: McVitie's Carrot Cake Slice (82p, also Sainsbury's) is barely edible compared to the luxury of Fru's individually wrapped alternatives (2.99/ box of 8, though I think I've seen them as much as a pound more expensive); Cadbury Orange Crisp Bites (1.39 for box of 18) are the conventionally Cadbury's-orange-creme-flavoured variants on their usual Mint Crisp Bites; and I haven't yet had a chance to unwrap McVitie's Orange Jamaica Ginger Cake (2 for 1.09 the other week in Camden Morrisons), or these curious little Johnstone's Luxury Lemon Cheesecake Mini Bites (84p in Sainsbury's for a box of 9).

Comment: The Mint digestive slices seem to have returned; I found a pack of 6 on offer for *34p* at Sainsbury's in Macclesfield.

The pack seems a little different from yours from last year.

Thing is, I'm not sure mint goes in those combo anyway; Mint+chocolate is good, but I'm not sure Mint+chocolate digestive and sultanas works; I couldn't taste the sultanas for the mint taste. The first one certainly tasted 'odd'; they kind of warmed on me by the 5th or 6th :-)
