Snackspot reports: And with a happy New Year and (belated) Merry Christmas to all our readers, here are some of my favourite products of the last 12 months - even if they weren't all as innovative as last year's. Sadly, it's probably too late to catch McDonald's alarmingly impressive Big Cheese With Bacon (pictured here), part of a Festive line-up that also included Cheese Melt Dippers with a piquant Caramelised Onion Dip, and which was only really let down by the Cranberry Chutney Festive Chicken Wrap. Coca Cola with Orange might have been more of a hit if they'd done a diet version, though over-18s could always make up for it with the likes of Becks Green Lemon. But if there's one new brand which I find myself buying regularly, it's Cadbury's Strawberry And Lime Trident Splash - I don't know if I could go back to Wrigley's mint Extras now if I tried.

...Still, obviously this list isn't intended to be exhaustive, so let's hear your nominations for anything you think is the best thing since Reduced Salt Chicken and Mushroom Pot Noodle. And the same goes for any top post-Christmas price reductions, especially on goods as unexpectedly delicious as Asda's (possibly Snackspot-inspired?) Extra Special Chocolate Christmas Pudding (almost worth it at 4.98 full price).

Comment: First off, happy new year to all of you (unless you are a criminal reading this in jail - I hear that jails have net access these days).

I would have to say that 2007 was a great year for new stuff, and most of it is still available (don't you just hate the routine of new products being discontinued as soon as you grow to like them) to buy in most stores. I would have to say that my favourite has to be the Tropical Fruits flavour of Trident gum. The only down point is that it is so expensive if you are a keen chewer (not a euphemism you understand). What I demand is that a budget chewing gum is launched that is actually decent - cheap gum is usually disgusting. I particularly remember buying some gum from Lidl a while back and being shocked at the taste. It took me a while to realise what it tasted like but then it came to me: it tasted like the sticky substance on an envelope.

New year's resolution - don't buy anything from Lidl unless there is an 'End of the world' type plague scenario.

Comment: cheers TSH - I meant to explain that you could see all of this year's (100 or so?) sightings by looking at the list here: http://www.snackspot.org.uk/viewall.php?seq=recency ...though only down as far as the "Reduced Salt Chicken and Mushroom Pot Noodle" which was the first one of 2007, if you see what I mean.

Anyway, Cadbury Double Choc and Terry's Chocolate Orange cookies probably also deserve an honorable mention, and I *still* think there's a gap in the market for a UK version of Polish Apricot Jaffa Cakes... http://www.snackspot.org.uk/images/delicjeSzampanskieApricot.jpg

Comment: Having now gazed on the list it has reminded me of the pointless Heinz Baked Beanz limited editions. Surely these must win the award for most pointless products of 2007. Not only did they combine ingredients that are cheap enough already, they actually tasted worse than the home-made version.

The variety with Worcestershire Sauce reminded me of a prank we used to play at school. If one of your fellow table-members left their food for a second you would pour as much sauce, salt and vinegar into their beans as possible. Being kids on a budget, we would still eat the beans, even in their arguably unsafe state. This is what the Worcestershire sauce beans tasted of. Good riddance to bad rubbish as I believe the Americans sometimes say (well they do in movies anyway).

Comment: Does anyone out there know who makes the low fat mini beigal snacks? They are in a green coloured bag with little beigals on and are absolutely delice. Tesco no longer stock them, and can't find them anywhere.

Comment: I think KFC'S wrapstar should be appreciated! To me it was a glorious combination of all that lovely goodness included in it, and became a perfect match for my fully loaded meal to replace the hot wings I usually get.!!

Comment: 2007 was a pretty poor year, but my favourite snack was Coca- Cola Orange and even that was PRETTY CRAPPY! But better than all the rest...
