Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Walkers Baked Bacon and Cheddar/ Mango Chilli Confirmed sighting: Walkers Baked Bacon and Cheddar/ Mango Chilli
Posted: 12:09 Thu 17-Jan-2008. Price: 1.18 for 6 multipack - or 2 for any two multipacks. Location: Sainsbury's, Plymouth. Nutritional unusualness: 99 calories, 2.1g fat, 0.3g salt per 25g bag.
"Magnetic Ham Sandwich" reports: New year, new flavours seems to be becoming the traditional motto from Walkers HQ in Leicester. To start things off this time around we get a couple of new additions to the increasingly popular Baked range - joining the 4 flavours already available in standard size bags (and the 150g-size only Mediterranean Herb). First up is Bacon and Cheddar, which had a lovely cheesey ham aroma when you open the packet, and tasted suprisingly appetising for a reformed potato snack. The second new flavour is Mango Chilli, which doesn't have much of a smell to it on opening, but has quite a lot of heat in each crisp once you start crunching. Maybe a good idea to have a drink nearby if you plan on eating a whole packet of this flavour. They're both sold in separate 6 pack multipacks. Walkers seem to have improved the recipe of their Baked crisps in the last year too, these new flavours are both good additions to the range.

...Presumably Walkers will be distributing these (plus a "Farmers' Choice" 6-pack of Roast Gammon, Sweet Cumberland Sausage, and Ploughmans) from their touring Hot Crisps vans - though United Biscuits will be fighting back with KP Baked and Seasoned Nuts and limited edition McCoy's Takeaways. But don't get your hopes up for a UK launch of the Cheetos Twisted that "Zeddy" paid 75c for in Fuerteventura Airport, Spain, cursing: "WOW! These taste amazing! Big fat helter-skelters of corn puffs with a buttery cheese flavour like Wotsits had Long ago in a galaxy far away.... I only bought one packet to keep me going on the plane. Damn! http://www.pepsico.es/index.php?s=productos/cheetos/producto/cheetos-twisted."

Comment: Just had the bacon and cheddar ones. Lovely! The taste reminded me rather bizzarely of a trip to the pizza hut salad bar - the blue cheese dressing mixed with the bacon bits.

Comment: The mango chilli ones are great too, again bizzarely the initial taste reminds me of McVities Jamaica ginger cake! - this is a good thing, really tasty, didn't really get a kick of heat in mine though.

Comment: I had all 3 flavours of the limited McCoys Takeaways crisps yesterday and today. The Chicken Curry is a very strong authentic flavour, the Southern Fried Chicken Wings is second best with that familiar McCoys BBQ chicken flavour they've done so often in the past. The Chinese Sweet & Sour Ribs flavour was the worst of the three on offer though, tasting quite bland without any noticeable tang.
