Confirmed sighting: Pringles Limited Summer Editions
Posted: 20:01 Mon 21-Jul-2008. Price: £1.48. Location: Tesco Danestone, Aberdeen. Sub-flavours: Char-Grilled BBQ Beef, Chicken, Smokey Bacon, Chunky Cheese, Mediterranean Salsa, Jalapeno.
"C. Byron" reports: There are six Summer Edition Pringles this year (one from last year and two which are former standard flavours). The best in my opinion has got to be Mediterranean Salsa. Apart from that and Smokey Bacon, the rest are not that nice. To my horror I found out that last year's Char-Grilled BBQ Steak (now Beef) has had an "improved" recipe and now tastes somewhat like marmalade! Also, Jalapeno tastes like Hot and Spicy, but not as spicy.
...And "C. Byron" is back to expand on Zeddy's earlier sighting of the Char-Grilled Marmalade variety - coinciding with a communication from "Joseph Wang", who perhaps isn't surprising many of us with the news that: "Last Friday, a British court declared Pringles not to be potato crisps for purposes of taxation. (I'm a law student at the University of Michigan with a penchant for British crisps arising from a two-year master's programme at Oxford.)" It's all because the Pringles have several features "not found in nature" - and they say that High Court judges are out of touch!
Anyway, in other non-potato novelties: Hula Hoops are launching a new Tortilla range (in six-packs of Cool Original, Chilli Salsa or Nacho Cheese), but "Cliff" didn't seem quite excited enough to provide a photo of the KP Mini Chips he found for 45p in Longs Supermarket, Racecourse Road, Derry, N. Ireland, reminiscing: "Never thought I'd see these again and still can't find them on the United Biscuits site (?!) but located not down the crisp aisle but on a KP Nut stand at the newsagent section near the front were the best crisps for crisp sandwiches - Mini Chips! I bought as many as I could carry and they still taste fantastic! That was around 20th June 2008."

Comment: What I like about that BBC article is the final paragraph:
"Under UK tax rules, most traditional bakery products such as bread, cakes, flapjacks and Jaffa Cakes are free of VAT, but the tax is payable on cereal bars, shortbread and partly-coated or wholly-coated biscuits."
Two traditional bakery products, on a par with bread and cakes, are flapjacks and Jaffa Cakes? (Which surely fall into the 'cakes' category anyway...)
Yeah, my bakery is pretty much choc full of Jaffa Cakes.

Comment: I have to agree with C.Byron when they say the Mediterranean Salsa is the best of the 6 (SIX) limited Summer Edition flavours from Pringles this year. They have a lovely strong Pesto-like taste and it's quite easy for a whole tube to soon disappear. I also enjoyed the Chicken flavour, which is reminiscent of the crispy bits of chicken skin on a drumstick. It's nice to see Cheese and Bacon flavours back on the shelves too. The Jalapeño is way too tame to be of interest, and my tip would be to avoid the BBQ Beef altogether. They're currently on offer at any 2 for £2 at Tescos too by the way.
