Click pic to view comments - Confirmed sighting: Burton's Caramel Wagon Wheels Confirmed sighting: Burton's Caramel Wagon Wheels
Posted: 20:26 Sat 21-Feb-2009. Price: 1.16 (2 for two packs). Location: Tesco Extra, Northampton. Sub-flavours: Plain, Jammie. Nutritional unusualness: Per biscuit: 162 Kcal, Carbs 25.2g, 5.9g Fat.
"BadCaseOfThe Muchies" reports: Always loved the Toffee Wagon Wheels that were about in the mid-1990s, but haven't seen them since '96. Whilst browsing the biscuit aisle in Tesco, I spotted these beauties - Caramel Wagon Wheels (in the original gold packaging)..! They may not be Toffee Wagon Wheels, but they sure enough taste the same to me. Apparently, according to the packaging, they used to make Caramel Wagon Wheels, which I don't remember, but, in the absence of Toffee, these will definitely do for me!

For those that liked Toffee WW's, give these a try. They are apparently only back for a limited period (why do manufacturers do this..!? grr), so grab them while you can! Wagon Wheel connoisseurs, please email Burton's Foods if you like these, let's try and persuade them to continue production indefinitely (some chance!) I'm sure they're not everyone's "cup of tea", but this is the best news since the return of Cadbury's Wispa, as far as I'm concerned. Now if only Nestle would bring back Coffee Walnut Whips...

...A reassuringly enthusiastic sighting here from first-time spotter "BadCaseOfThe Muchies" (sic) - in other toffee-related offerings: Nestle are supposed to be doing a Kit-Kat Cone to accompany these Ice Cream versions of the apparently back-from-oblivion Lion Bar; Chocolate Tart with Caramel is one of a range of new Cadbury's frozen desserts that also includes (PDF link) Chocolate Cheescake with Flake, Chocolate Roulade and a Chocolate Bombe; and Gu have redefined Rocky Road to be "Chewy Choccy Raisin 'n' Biscuit Bites" (ie lots of caramel and no not much marshmallow), but the result is so successful that I almost didn't mind that a tub of Gu Naughties only looks about half-full (1.99/16 bites, Tesco).

Comment: It's about time the EU harmonises the ingredients of Rocky Road in legislation. I believe the definitive version is raisins, biscuits, marshmallow and cherries all coated in chocolate.

Comment: good idea zeddy: too many rocky roads get away without the cherries.

Comment: sorry for causing any unwarranted alarm - I double-checked the ingredients and the Gu Rocky Road "Naughties" do have cherries and marshmallow in them, just not in the larger ratios you might normally expect...

Comment: There was no need for that! I hope you're not having a pop at my cherries, incidentally.
